Isabel's Journey: 2013

Our Little Issy

Isabel Louise Cairns was born on April 1st 2011 in Canberra, Australia. Isabel failed her newborn hearing screening in hospital and was referred for further testing where they discovered she had a profound hearing loss. We are not sure why this happened as have not yet undergone genetic testing and have no history of deafness in our family. Isabel will receive bilateral Cochlear implants on September 16, 2011 when she is 5 and a half months old. This blog is Isabel's story of her journey into the hearing world.

About Me

My name is Melanie and I am Isabel's mother. My husband Chris and I recently relocated to Canberra, Australia, where I grew up and where my family still live, upon finding out our baby girl was born with a profound hearing loss. We immediately knew we wanted to go down the Cochlear implant road and so decided there was no better place for Issy than Australia (where Cochlear was created) to give her consistency of care along with the love and support of all of our family and friends to get her ready for school.
